Electrical Engineer

MSP Technologies are looking for their next Electrical Engineer (all levels and abilities considered) to join their rapidly expanding company to help design, build and deliver multi-megawatt battery storage systems, all from our manufacturing facility in the South Lakes (Cumbria).

You’ll be responsible for all aspects of electrical engineering with a particular focus on developing existing systems, designing R&D projects from the ground up, and taking live projects from concept to on-site commissioning.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic to become an authority on the MSP products, and the individual components they’re made up from. Training will always be provided for specialist equipment or skills required to complete the task.

Critical qualities:

  • Electrical Engineering qualifications – HNC/HND/Degree – Electrician with Testing and Design qualifications considered

  • Competent at reading schematics

  • Understanding and correct implementation of electrical testing

  • Methodical and patient with fault finding

  • Willingness to travel UK wide

  • Willingness to travel internationally (infrequent)

  • Clean driving licence

  • Electrical principals – calculations etc.

  • Safety conscious attitude

  • Coherent, polite, and well presented in the office, on site and with customers

Desirable qualities:

  • PLC literate

  • Familiar with communications protocols Modbus/CAN

  • Willingness to travel internationally (infrequent)

  • Experienced with Hardware in the Loop (HIL)

Your typical tasks may include:

  • Identify customer requirements

  • Design systems and products

  • Read design specifications and technical drawings

  • Research suitable solutions and estimate costs and timescales

  • Work to standards, including British (BS) and European (EN)

  • Liaise with others in the engineering team

  • Communicate with clients and contractors

  • Attend meetings on site

  • Design and conduct tests

  • Record, analyse, and interpret test data

  • Propose modifications and retest products

  • Qualify the final product or system

  • Service and maintain equipment

  • Prepare product documentation, write reports and give presentations

  • Monitor a product in use to improve future design
